Memorial Day is coming up soon. I am getting more and more patriotic as I get older, appreciating our country and what we stand for as a democracy. Memorial Day honors those who lost their life while fighting for our freedom that we all too often take for granted.

No matter how you feel about the war or patriotism, you have to believe in the people who fight for freedom.

There is an easy way to show support for those who are fighting for freedom today. Cards for Heroes is an awesome endeavor set up to provide cards free of charge for troops in foreign lands to use to write to their family and loved ones.

If you are the slightest bit crafty, or if you have artistic kids (wink) (come on who's kids are NOT artistic) you can make a card or two or twenty and make an anonymous donation into your good deed bank account. Check them out and contribute!

It doesn’t take a hero to order men into battle
It takes a hero to be one of those men who go into battle

In Flanders Fields a poem by Dr. John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
