Hear a color? Synesthesia?

Finally I have some time and I’ve started setting up my shops again, I hope this will be the year that I can give them the attention that they deserve.

I’ve chosen Romans 15:32 to be my mission statement for Merry’s Musings.
"That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you, be refreshed. "

When I first conceived of the shop, it was named after the fairy 'Merry' of Walt Disney and Cinderella fame,

“In a far away land, long ago,” says the storybook, a daughter is born to a king and queen, which they name Aurora. The kingdom assembles for her christening, at which time the infant princess is betrothed to the young Prince Philip. Three fairies, Flora (dressed in pink), Fauna (in green) and Merryweather (in blue) arrive to present Aurora with blessings.”

I do sort of resemble her, nice and pudgy, sort of flying around seeking to bless people in whatever I do on a daily basis. And that scolding look? Yes they nailed me to a T.

I have to confess, I cannot fly. Too bad, oh what I could do if I could fly.

But to the point, I find that my art is a little more personal to me than the thwumpt of a wand waved, then voila! …it’s done.

I (as do most every one who make art) take joy in the stroke of color that’s laid; I take joy in the colors and how they form my vision. Good or badly done, I think my art is a gift from God, and I do take pleasure in the creation of it.

Each piece is submitted for approval only when it is done, and not before. In crafting each piece there are many places to stop, but only I know when it is really done. I just love the life in art, when the piece comes to life.

And so I include and underscore the ending of that scripture, 'and may with you be refreshed' in my mission statement. I find such refreshment in crafting, may you too find refreshment.

By definition, Art: The conscious production or arrangement of sounds, colors, forms, movements, or other elements in a manner that affects the sense of beauty, specifically the production of the beautiful in a graphic or plastic medium.

Wouldn’t it be neat to see a sound? Hear a color? Synesthesia?

How does violin music smell? What does the reflection of trees in a lake sound like? What color is Thursday? To most people, these questions might seem completely nonsensical, but to people with synesthesia they sound perfectly reasonable.

Thinking of a bright shiney New Year

Wow, fast away the old year passes, eh?

Thinking about the New Year today, and I just can’t get really excited. And as I read blogs as per my usual this morning there is just no moment of connection on thoughts of the New Year. Just not feeling the whoopee.

But here's a neat note: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2009/12/091230-blue-moon-new-years-eve.html That's sort of fun isn't it! Blue Moon, you saw me standing alone...maybe somebody will fall in love or write another song or something!

I always make resolutions, I am somewhat goal oriented along with being a creative. I do love it when it all comes together, when it is actually done.

And if my attention span lets me get to that point I am all aglow at least for a minute, then I am distracted by a new project and find myself in the middle of the process again. But this year my resolutions are late in coming to life.

Or maybe they are becoming realistic. I mean how many years can you vow to lose weight and still LIVE in flannel pants at every possible moment. There has to be a different take on this.
Hope you are in the middle of a wonderful end of the year. It’s nice to stop. . . Close my eyes, listen, think. As a matter of fact those sound like some darn good resolutions for me,

stop

listen

think.

And I pray that you will have some quiet moments before we are sweeping up confetti and recycling champagne bottles. I personally think we should celebrate the new year on December 26th. We should say “Happy New Life!” after the birth of Christ in our hearts, that’s where new begins.

Happy New Life!

John 10:10
I have come that they may have life and have it to the full. (NIV)

Well here’s a little belated present for your perusal that I did come across. Good grief there’s a lot to look at here. http://www.designspongeonline.com/

And here's a sneek peek at my new look for 2010's labels. Do you like?

And to prove that I sincerely want your opinion, anyone who leaves a comment will get a free sample mailed to them! ha. Happy New Life!

And last but not least NEW ART! It will be listed on etsy tomorrow in honor of the CAAT team's monthly challenge. Fun.
Sweet huh?

The challenge theme is portals/doors.

"He who wants to do good knocks at the gate;
He who loves finds the gate open. "

Nice! Wish I'd said that.

And..."the butterfly counts not months but moments and has time enough."

Yup, so sweet. Be blessed!
