Frozen solid

Brr. It's been cold here in Oregon, finally it has warmed up to 34 degrees. I don't know if you can make it out or not in the picture but the food in the hummingbird feeder is frozen! It is a solid block of ice.

Poor little birdies and poor little me. I don't know what it is about this little creature trying to get food, that just sets me on edge. Makes me feel like I need to do something to help mother nature out somehow.

Well Father Nature stepped in. My Dear Husband went out every morning in that 17 degree fridg of iceburg weather and take a pitcher of hot water and try to thaw it for them for a brief (underline brief in 17 degree weather) moment. Cue applause. Big applause.

They kept at it- trying to get a drink, I hope they got a little something. It would thaw in the afternoon for an hour most days, but I think the am is when they feed the most. They kept trying and trying.

I think our temp forecast is up past freezing for the week, thank goodness! I can't take too much more of this.

Seriously, the coldness, and the grayness, and the worry about my family and the ice on the roads. It has really worn me out. Makes me feel blue. So can you imagine my delight and surprise when I went to my mailbox today and found that my sweet online friend had sent me a Christmas present!!!

She sent me a beautiful pair of earrings that I'm sure she made herself, and yes I am wearing them as I type! They are just perfect. As they would be here's a link to her shop, she has the most beautiful items.

I drool every time I visit.

And just like a secret sister, she packed the box full of fun and whimsy.

She is a master craftsmistress of whimsy as she is a graphic artist by trade. She has the most reasonable prices for the most wonderful designs, if you need business cards, banners, blogheaders, she will have exactly what you want or make it to order with your own pics. She's awesome along with her husband who handles the web design end of it for your online business needs. Find her online here

Look at this one, SO SWEET. How does she do it? If were for my shop I would leave it up all year long. That font! I am so jealous, I just love it.

This is one of my favorites, I love how she pairs the font with the pattern, but I just love the harlequin pattern anyway. I've had a lifelong love for those little diamonds. So European! So French! So Italian! So Mardigras!

And just like a true friend she even enclosed BUTTONS!! tee hee, they are crafting buttons and I got ideas as they spilled out of the plastic. Fun fun fun for me.

The package had a super sweet star lollipop that was confiscated in the blink of an eye by my number one grandson. What a fun treat for us to open that box on this gray cold miserable day.

You can't really tell in the pic above, but the little yellow flowers to the left are mini crocheted daisies and to the right are 4 yellow daffodil buttons. YUP. Me and my buttons. I know you sense a smile curling at the corners of my mouth don't you. Yup.Vanessa you made a gray yucky icky day bright and filled with fun. Thank You so much for your kindness and may God continue to bless you and hold you close!

At times I find life difficult because I am trying to do it on my own. The Christian life was not meant to be lived that way. We were meant to be yoked to Jesus. He said, “Take My yoke upon you. For My yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28)

My favorite things

Welcome! So nice that you dropped by! Sit, have some tea...

I love my list of blog links (see the lower right column) -at this time of year especially. I love the little snippets and pics of Christmas trees and decorations. It really puts me in the holiday spirit to see how other people decorate.

I love my tree. I get it up as soon as I can every year...just something about at those twilight times of day, early morning and early evening. It just glows. It is loaded with as much shine and sparkle as I can get on it now that I have a fake one that I use every year. I could hang cast iron pots from it and it would look just gorgeous!

All the ornaments are unbreakable as of the year 2004 when our house was blessed with small kids again. Oooops...here's one now...and yes, that's what happens when he gets around the tree with his older cousin. "He did it" ...Seriously, they are only 3 and 4 years old and they each point to the other one over a heap of ornaments and say, "he did it!"

I just got rid of all the glass ones and switched to plackey and soft crafted ones. It makes a very homey sweet tree. It is one of my favorite things at Christmas...

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad

"My Favorite Things"
(1959)
Music by Richard Rodgers
Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II
Played during the opening credits
Sung by Julie Andrews to the children
Reprised by the orchestra at the party
Danced to by the party guests and the children
Reprised by Julie Andrews, Charmian Carr, Nicholas Hammond, Heather Menzies,
Duane Chase, Angela Cartwright, Debbie Turner and Kym Karath,
when Maria returns as governess
Played as background music often

What a classic, from 1959 no less. I thinks it's more a winter song than a Christmas song, but I'm glad it comes back every year at about this time. Check out these new artists, these guys are so cute...

Followed with a classic chaser...
Tony Bennett

Wishing you your favorite things and Christmas blessings, and I know you are blessed!
Don't forget to focus on the good you already have; what God HAS already done. (Psalm 103:2-4) He forgives all. He heals all. He redeems us from all destruction.

Here's a beautiful email I received today from a very special friend of mine. It is so touching I wanted to share...

A Different Christmas Poem

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.

Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.

My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know,
Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.

My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.

A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.

"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"

For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts..
To the window that danced with a warm fire's light

Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night."
"It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.

No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at ' Pearl on a day in December,"
Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."

My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ' Nam ',
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.
I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.

Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... an American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.

I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother..

Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall."
" So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."

"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."

Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.

For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

A favorite organization of mine, Operation Write Home is a lovely gateway to express your gratitude to an unknown deployed member of the Military. They live in a stressful job and sometimes just a note from home from a stranger is just as good as a cup of hot chocolate with marchmallows.

I came across this vid just this morning, he has a very witty sense of humor which I just love...he's so funny. Bill Whittle.

Pajamas TV? heard of it? I hadn't.

The latest for me, I GOT MY SHOPPING DONE!!! Yes the clicking you hear is not reindeer hooves on your roof it's just me clicking my heels as I jump for joy. On with the journey towards December 25...Giftwrap Mountain! But before Giftwrap Mountain, is Cookie Junction. haha...I never drive by Cookie Junction...gotta pick up offerings for Santa baby!

So sad this morning for the hummingbirds outside my window, the temp is 25 degrees outside and the hummingbird feeder is frozen. I had humming bird wars yesterday at about 3pm when the sun thawed it out enough for a drink. I'm not sure how to fix that problem, I guess bring it in at night? brrrrr me.

I hope you have a day that is filled to the overbrim with blessings, remember Romans 8:32, God freely gives us all things.
