Pumpkin sloppy Joes

.....wwwwwhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaattttttttttt you say? muuaaaahaaaahaaaa...

Ingredients
1/2 pound lean ground beef
3 tablespoons finely chopped onion
1/4 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons tomato juice
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
Dash ground cloves and nutmeg
Dash pepper
2/3 cup canned pumpkin
2 hamburger buns, split

Directions
In a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain.
Add the ketchup, tomato juice, chili powder, cloves, nutmeg and pepper. Bring to a boil. Stir in pumpkin. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until heated through. Serve on buns. Yield: 2 servings.

Nutrition Facts: 1 sandwich equals 350 calories, 11 g fat (4 g saturated fat), 56 mg cholesterol, 730 mg sodium, 36 g carbohydrate, 3 g fiber, 27 g protein. Diabetic Exchanges: 3 lean meat, 2-1/2 starch.

The Legend of the Jack-O-Lantern

Settle back with a cup of hot apple cider and enjoy a minute reading a vintage tale with a moral...repent!!!

In order to earn money to spend at the local pub, he looked for an "easy shilling" from gambling, a pastime at which he excelled. In his whole life he never made a single enemy, never made a single friend and never performed a selfless act for anyone.

The devil snorted at such child’s play and instantly changed himself into a shilling. Jack grabbed the coin. He held it tight in his hand, which bore a cross-shaped scar. The power of the cross kept the devil imprisoned there, for everyone knows the devil is powerless when faced with the cross. Jack would not let the devil free until he granted him another year of life. Jack figured that would be plenty of time to repent. The devil left Jack at the pub.

The devil threw snake eyes—two ones—and was about to haul him off, but Jack used a pair of dice he himself had whittled. When they landed as two threes, forming the T-shape of a cross, once again the devil was powerless. Jack bargained for more time to repent.

The devil hadn’t showed up and Jack soon found out why not.

Before he knew it Jack was in front of the pearly gates. St. Peter shook his head sadly and could not admit him, because in his whole life Jack had never performed a single selfless act. Then Jack presented himself before the gates of hell, but the devil was still seething. Satan refused to have anything to do with him.

The devil tossed a burning coal into a hollow pumpkin and ordered him to wander forever with only the pumpkin to light his path. From that day to this he has been called "Jack o’ the Lantern." Sometimes he appears on Halloween!

Operation get real

Christmas cards framed by Picnik's halloween graphics, strange post title, I am sure you are wondering what was I thinking, but there is a rational thought behind this post.

It's on my mind a lot that we who live in America are just so fortunate, even those of us who are in the midst of job insecurity, life insecurity, family insecurity, strife, greed, ignorance...ect ad infinitum...and it is because we live in a protected land. We have a military system in place who is commanded by the president, and we sleep at night in a free land in relative peace.

I enjoy the banter of both sides of the political coin (see my twitter list of odities) because people are flawed, and both sides, demo or repub have major opinions to exploit and reveal, and I along with many other people will never believe a word that is said, a promise that is made, a vow that is taken without seeing some action taken on it. But there is a reason I can enjoy that banter, and that is my freedom that is provided for me sight unseen most days.

During the green revolution, I think we were all made aware of the dictatorship that exists in Iran, those NON savage people who long for democracy, but were hoodwinked out of an honest count on their vote. Their dissenters were put in prison because of their peaceful protest and now punishment is harsh and severe for those who opened thier mouth for the cause of freedom. They don't enjoy banter in Iran, they are punished.

Well it's true, Iran may be the latest in the headlines but It's an ongoing battle, freedom vs opression. And there is an ongoing presence that ralleys to the side of freedom, no matter if its 1911, 1945 or 2009 and that is the military. Right or wrong, America's military (meaning the actual inlisted soldier) goes for freedom.

I admit I don't really do much except try not to take it for granted, I don't go to town halls, or on mission work to reform and educate, but I do donate in several worthy areas. I have a pet group who takes it and makes it real. Get real!!
